RIYADH — Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted the Syrian capital, Damascus, injuring security personnel and civilians during an operation to dismantle two explosive devices planted by a terrorist cell.In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the attack in the strongest terms and reaffirmed the Kingdom’s firm rejection of all terrorist and extremist acts aimed at undermining the security and stability of Syria and its people.The Kingdom also expressed its sincere sympathy to the families of the injured and to the government and people of Syria, wishing the country continued security, safety and stability.Earlier on Sunday, two explosions in central Damascus injured 18 people, including four police officers, after two explosive devices detonated as specialized security units were preparing to defuse them, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).The agency said the explosions occurred near the Ministry of Tourism, outside the security perimeter designated for French President Emmanuel Macron’s residence during his official visit.The incident did not affect Macron’s official program, while the French presidency confirmed that the French leader was unharmed and continued with his scheduled meetings.
