GENEVA — CEO of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), Dr. Abdullah Alghamdi, discussed strengthening international cooperation on AI ethics with UNESCO Director-General during the AI for Good Global Summit from July 6-7. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Global AI Governance Dialogue on Tuesday, brought together Dr. Alghamdi and Dr. Khaled El-Enany, UNESCO Director-General, to review strategic cooperation between Saudi Arabia and UNESCO in artificial intelligence and explore ways to develop ethical policies governing these advanced technologies. Dr. Alghamdi highlighted Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including the Kingdom’s establishment of the International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE). **media[2733549]** Approved by UNESCO’s General Conference as a Category II international center under its auspices, ICAIRE serves as a global hub for advancing research and development, promoting awareness of AI ethics, and building international capabilities. The SDAIA president also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s efforts to translate international AI principles into practical action through several initiatives led by the authority. These include launching the National Principles for AI Ethics, awarding AI ethics labels to more than 60 companies across the Kingdom, and introducing the National AI Index to measure the maturity of AI adoption across government entities, ensuring responsible governance that supports human-centered innovation.
