Bahrain’s highest Shiite religious authority, Sheikh Isa Qassim, commended those who took part in the annual Ashura commemorations of Imam Hussain’s martyrdom at the Battle of Karbala, saying they share the same cause as the resistance fighters in Lebanon.
In a statement on Monday, Sheikh Qassim said Imam Hussain “sacrificed everything that was precious, including his wealth, family, brothers, and his own life, willingly and with complete contentment. He even accepted the captivity of his family and every hardship necessary to preserve God’s religion and establish a movement that can never be extinguished, one destined to triumph over falsehood and oppression.”
Sheikh Qassim said those commemorating Ashura today walk the same path as those resisting Israel’s invasion of southern Lebanon, who continue to sacrifice their lives, homes, and livelihoods while enduring displacement, persecution, and indiscriminate attacks.
According to Sheikh Qassim, both Ashura mourners and Lebanese resistance fighters are motivated by obedience to God and a commitment to the path of Imam Hussain and the Karbala revolution.
He concluded that these sacrifices have brought “courage, dignity, faith, valor, guidance, piety, purity, clarity of vision, insight, determination, noble intentions, spiritual and moral strength, and a deeper attachment to God and His true religion.”
